It goes without saying that, above all, this is a space where no racism, transphobia, homophobia, body-shaming, slut-shaming, misogyny, ableism, Zionism, or other intersections or variations of the bigotry aforementioned are welcome.
- Treat one another as if we were an in-person club! One of the best pieces of advice I’ve recently read about being in an online community is to behave as if it were a ‘real-life’ community! G&G is designed with busy schedules and lives in mind with its asynchronous and digital format, and it can be easy to forget that there other others behind the screen. Remember to treat one another kindly and respectfully, and come prepared to ask questions and share your responses via one of the many avenues we have (e.g. email, our new voicemail inbox, or the community forums on Discord)
- Be sincere, show grace, and ask for clarity. Ultimately, we can only have these discussions if we can all come from a mutual place of positive intent, respect, and sincerity. Because we’re here to discuss ideas, learn about ourselves and the world around us, AND share opinions about games, confusion and disagreements can occur. That’s okay! If these situations arise, feel free to ask for clarity, understand when it may be beneficial to not continue a conversation further, and remember that folks are coming to each game with a different set of background experiences and contexts.
- It’s okay to dislike (or like) something. If we play a game and you don’t like it — that’s okay! Conversely, if someone enjoys something that you didn’t, allow them to enjoy that thing. Our goal, regardless of how you feel, is for you to think about why. Ask one another questions if you find folks hold different opinions. See if they’re open to a deeper discussion, and if so, talk about it!
- Don’t Stress and Have Fun! While we do want to encourage your participation, don’t worry if you need to spend a month (or more) focusing on listening to the conversations rather than directly participating in them. We’re always here for you to engage with however best works for your time and energy. Our primary goal is to spend time discussing a media we all love, together!
