About

Geeks & Grounds

a hub for game curation, reflection, content, and community.

Geeks & Grounds' first iteration began in 2017 as a test project and podcast with the hopes of connecting games and thematic discussions around topics like leadership, optimism, and grief. While life got in the way for a time, and the project stalled, the podcast returned with a broader scope and slightly changed purpose in 2023.

The new version? A monthly game club with the goal of encouraging participants to savor the games they play while also digging deeper into each title, hopefully learning more about themselves and the world in doing so. In this, I brought back my dear friend, Joel, who was a part of the 2017 pilot, to co-host the podcast and help me facilitate discussions around the games curated for the club.

Now, Geeks & Grounds continues to evolve. The game club continues, and in addition to that, my desire to cover and share my thoughts and reflections around an increasing number of games made me think that the project could expand even more. Cue this new website: a hub for the club, yes, but supplemented with additional demo, release, and feature coverage through the lens of someone playing games to learn more about themselves and the world around me.

Jenny Windom

aka kimchica

Hi there! I'm Jenny, but you may also know me as Kimchica. I've been in the video game industry since 2018, and my roles in the industry have included community director, senior influencer manager and strategist, producer, host, game fund advisor, and content creator. If you'd like to learn more about my work on the development side of the industry, visit my personal website: jennywindom.com.

My driving force for being in games, though, is two-fold: help people find their next favorite games and to show people how games can be used to learn more about themselves (and those around them).

I create content highlighting games primarily under the brand handle "Kimchica" on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, focusing primarily on indie games that have thoughtful stories, generally compassionate themes, and unique mechanics. I'm a sucker for genre blends, pixel art, and a hopeful story that encourages player curiousity. In addition to creating video and livestream content, I have a podcast and video game club called "Geeks & Grounds" available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and other services.

On top of my own projects, I'm also a part of The Indie Council, a collaborative podcast spearheaded by Jill Grodt (The Indie Informer) and co-hosted with Janet Garcia (Pen to Pixels) and Mike Townsend (Six One Indie). Each week, we dive into industry news, releases, and topics, focusing on an indie perspective.
